Product Description

This Snaefellsnes Peninsula Tour takes you on a fascinating journey, culminating right about the halfway point. There you can marvel at the mighty 1.450 meter Snaefellsjokull  (Snæfellsjökull) volcano glacier while we visit the national park. Jules Verne made it famous in his novel “Journey to the Center of the Earth”.

The journey begins by taking the 6 km long underwater tunnel – crossing under Hvalfjörður, the Whale bay fjord. Afterwards we travel along the peninsula with the seaside on our left and incredible mountainous scenery on our right. This area became famous due to the movie “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”, from 2013.

We stop at the unique Breidafjordur (Breiðafjörður) beach, also called ‘the golden beach’. This is one of the few beaches in Iceland that do not consist of black sand. Along the way we visit small towns and fishing villages and see spectacular bird cliffs by the sea at Dritvík. We will also see the fishing hamlets at Arnarstapi and Hellnar. On the northern side we take you to the picturesque church-shaped mountain Kirkjufell, accompanied by a wonderful little waterfall on the other side of the road. At Djúpalónssandur beach (not accessible in winter) we will allow those who feel up to it to try their strength with the Stones of Trial.

Having been taken on tours by multiple tour companies, I say with confidence that Gateway to Iceland offers the best tours by far. The bus was clean, the guide full of interesting facts and stories about Iceland, and the sites incredible. In short, if you are thinking of hiring a tour company to see sites in Iceland, go with Gateway to Iceland.

Great Experience

I did the Snaellfesness tour and this was by far my favorite activity that I booked with a company. The region is breathtaking and our guide, Bjorn, was outstanding. He clearly enjoys his job, has a great sense of humor and makes an effort to learn about each place, as well as share about the country, its history and people's way of life.

“Do the Snaefellsnes tour with Gummi!”

sb1099 (Short Hills, New Jersey)

Our family of 4 took the Snaefellsnes tour with Gummi. We had avoided doing group tours until now because of the ages of our boys, who are 7 and 11. Gummi had them captivated throughout the trip with his interesting stories and facts; our older son ended up buying the Icelandic Sagas after the trip and has not been able to stop reading. The pace of the tour was perfect and we never felt rushed or tired or bored. We are so glad we took this tour and did not attempt it on our own, in fact we wish we had taken the Golden Circle tour as well. We will definitely use Gateway to Iceland more extensively for our travel planning on our next trip.
