Glacier Lagoon tour takes you to visit the charming village of Vík and continues through spectacular scenery, lava fields, and a black sandy desert all the way to the magnificent Glacier Lagoon Jokulsarlon (Jökulsárlón) where you can take a boat ride among the multi-shaped icebergs. You will also be able to walk between the icebergs on the so-called “Diamond” or “Crystal” beach. This is a black sand beach at the coastline near the Glacier Lagoon and, very often, there are many icebergs washed up on to the beach which makes for a spectacular view (please note: this cannot be guaranteed, as it depends on the tide/the wind, etc. whether and how many icebergs will be washed up there).
Our journey continues on to the turf church at Hof (Hofskirkja) and then Skaftafell National Park where we make a stop at Svínafellsjökull glacier tongue. As we make our way back towards Reykjavik we might be able to catch a glimpse of the eternal kiss of the Icelandic trolls along the way, before we will visit the serene, beautiful 100-meter deep Fjadrargljufur (Fjaðrárgljúfur) canyon (may not be accessible). We will also make a stop at one of the most famous and beautiful waterfalls – Seljalandsfoss. There may also be extra stops if time allows.
The Glacier Lagoon tour is truly something you will never forget!
Price for the Glacier Lagoon tour without a boat ride is 19.900 ISK.
From May to September: Zodiac boat ride available for additional 9.700 ISK per adult (6.200 ISK per youth).
Have you ever wondered what do glaciers look like up front? Take the 60 min exciting ride on a fast rib-boat and get up close to the icebergs! You will take a gentle stroll in-between dozens of them floating in the lagoon on their way to the open sea, followed by a stop right in front of Vatnajökull – Europe’s biggest glacier. Have your cameras ready for a unique photo opportunity to show your friends where does Iceland get its name from.
Note: if you are booking the tour for May to September, we highly recommend to book the tour with the boat ride! Our experience is that nearly all passengers who book without the boat ride then change their mind once arriving at the lagoon, however that is too late to book the seats for the boats. Do not miss out on the adventure!
For booking the tour with the boat ride, please select “Glacier Lagoon tour with Zodiac boat ride” from the drop-down menu at the top of the booking form (the price displayed then is including the boat ride).
Please note, children shorter than 100 cm / 3.3 feet are not advised to participate on Zodiac boats. (In that case at least one parent has to book the tour without the boat ride too).
WINTER VERSION of the Glacier Lagoon tour
We do reserve the right to alter the tour as needed if road or weather conditions are unfavorable. The boats do not operate during the winter. Fjaðrargljúfur may not be accessible in winter conditions (depends on the amount of snow and road conditions). But other extra stops will be made. Due to fewer daylight hours from November to February, much of the driving to and from the sights will be in darkness, but the main sight of this tour – Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon will be visited during daylight hours.
All departures require a minimum of 4 participants in order to operate. Gateway to Iceland reserves the right to delay, alter or cancel any tour due to weather or any other unsafe conditions for the safety of our clients.
Fjaðrárgljúfur: the walking paths are under constructions, so the sight is not accessible at the moment.
Svínafellsjökull: the road up to the glacier tongue is in a dangerous state, therefore this sight has to be skipped until further notices.
