Product Description

This Snaefellsnes Peninsula Tour takes you on a fascinating journey, culminating right about the halfway point. There you can marvel at the mighty 1.450 meter Snaefellsjokull  (Snæfellsjökull) volcano glacier while we visit the national park. Jules Verne made it famous in his novel “Journey to the Center of the Earth”.

The journey begins by taking the 6 km long underwater tunnel – crossing under Hvalfjörður, the Whale bay fjord. Afterwards we travel along the peninsula with the seaside on our left and incredible mountainous scenery on our right. This area became famous due to the movie “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”, from 2013.

We stop at the unique Breidafjordur (Breiðafjörður) beach, also called ‘the golden beach’. This is one of the few beaches in Iceland that do not consist of black sand. Along the way we visit small towns and fishing villages and see spectacular bird cliffs by the sea at Dritvík. We will also see the fishing hamlets at Arnarstapi and Hellnar. On the northern side we take you to the picturesque church-shaped mountain Kirkjufell, accompanied by a wonderful little waterfall on the other side of the road. At Djúpalónssandur beach (not accessible in winter) we will allow those who feel up to it to try their strength with the Stones of Trial.

“Thanks Fredrick!”

The weather was gloomy but overall the tour to Snaefellsnes National Park was enjoyable. Fredrick was friendly and made a lot of jokes. He's very knowledgeable and gave us lots of information regarding Iceland throughout the tours. Thanks Fredrick!

“Do the Snaefellsnes tour with Gummi!”

Our family of 4 took the Snaefellsnes tour with Gummi. We had avoided doing group tours until now because of the ages of our boys, who are 7 and 11. Gummi had them captivated throughout the trip with his interesting stories and facts; our older son ended up buying the Icelandic Sagas after the trip and has not been able to stop reading. The pace of the tour was perfect and we never felt rushed or tired or bored. We are so glad we took this tour and did not attempt it on our own, in fact we wish we had taken the Golden Circle tour as well. We will definitely use Gateway to Iceland more extensively for our travel planning on our next trip.

“Awesome snaefellsness tour! ”

Gimmi, our guide, was happy to make a stop to ytri tunga beach and showed us many seals and birds.
He had a lot of stories to tell and was really kind.
The tour in itself was good and I recommend people to see that part of Iceland which is beautiful and different than the south and the interior of the land.

“Fist class tours with expert local guides”

Went on 3 tours with this company and received great value for money, loads of local information both historical and geographical. Would recommend the Ice lagoon, Hot Golden Circle tour and the Snaefellsnes peninsula. Would have gone on the other tours but ran out of time. We were taken to the most amazing scenery and allowed plenty of time.Much thought was put into the food stops where excellent homemade fare was on offer. The guides were really interesting and friendly and put a great deal of effort into making sure everyone had fun. Contrast this with the one trip we took with Gray Line where there was virtually no commentary. As with any trip on Iceland you should go prepared for any weather by wearing layers. Cameras are a must and your senses will be blown away by the scale and beauty of the landscapes. When we return to Iceland we'll be booking more of Gateway to Iceland tours.

“A great day tour of Snaefellsness”

I enjoyed this tour very much and got many lovely photos. Our tour guide, Gummi was very considerate and provided many opportunities for stops and we saw puffins, amazing views of spectacular coastline and seals.

One bit of feedback: many tourists are increasingly concerned to have WC facilities at the photo places and I think Iceland would be wise to put portable toilet blocks in places such as where we stopped for the seals. I was fine - but some folk will have troubles I am sure. You need to be aware that this tour is a long day.

Also the coffee along the way needs to greatly improve - espresso coffee machines are becoming needed rather than typical truck stop gas station coffee machines. One didn't even work on one of our stops.
